I like your analysis of your teaching style, and I believe your judgment is accurate. As a student, I believe that constructing real problems to explain mathematics is a particularly effective method. Although it may take more time to visualize mathematical concepts, it undoubtedly leaves a deeper impression on students. I can always remember the scene when I was studying the Pythagorean theorem of trigonometric functions, where the teacher poured water from a square formed by two right angled sides into a square formed by the hypotenuse, filling it perfectly. It has been proven that this method of driving multiple parts of the brain to work together seems to deepen my impression of concepts.

When learning these concepts, I think distinguishing between constructivism and cognitivism is a difficult point for me. Because in my previous understanding, learning was divided into active learning and passive learning, and behaviorism perfectly fits my impression of passive learning. I used chat gpt to give me examples about constructivism and cognitivism in distinguishing and learning them, in order to better understand these concepts. After studying this aspect, I believe that I mainly relied on cognitivism to learn these concepts, because I initially learned these concepts not out of interest, but because the textbooks brought to me by this course stimulated my thinking and prompted my learning.
Compared to the ‘Chinese style education’ I received before, this is undoubtedly a more suitable learning atmosphere for me to create a constructivist environment. In the previous’ Chinese style education ‘, the goal was set to pass exams, which is undoubtedly a typical example of behaviorism. I don’t think it’s a wrong choice to divide talents through large-scale exams, but it’s not suitable for everyone, and maybe not for me. In this predominantly behaviorist environment, I am not eager for knowledge, it is just a task that I have to complete, which does not inspire my intrinsic drive to learn. And the experience of constructivism has always been something I am very willing to do. When I have some creative ideas, I am willing to discuss my thoughts on the world with friends or AI, such as about human survival and death, or some moral dilemmas.
Regarding the current teaching style, I believe that Uvic’s teaching approach is mainly based on cognitivism, with some constructivist and behaviorist elements. I think this is a very good teaching style. Although my ideal teaching style should be entirely composed of constructivism, which allows students to explore freely in the direction they want to develop, in order to achieve student differentiation and encourage everyone to pursue their desired career. But this is an idealized teaching method, and the reality is that without cognitive guidance and rigid behavioral requirements such as deadlines, students will be confused and aimless, or lazy.
